The National Medical Products Administration and the General Administration of Customs recently said through an announcement that Zhongshan Port has been approved by the State Council for drug import.

From the issuance of this announcement, excluding the drugs outlined in Article 10 of the Drug Importation Administrative Measures, other imported traditional Chinese medicine (including TCM materials) and chemicals (including narcotic and psychotropic drugs) can be imported through Zhongshan Port. The Zhongshan Administration for Market Regulation is the regulatory authority to be responsible for the filing work of drug import.

The announcement also indicates that the Guangdong Institute for Drug Control will serve as the responsible drug inspection agency for Zhongshan Port and undertake relevant inspections.

Upon its opening, the Zhongshan Port drug import port will help shorten the logistics cycle, reduce drug import costs, improve enterprises' motivation of drug and medicinal product importation, and lower consumers' costs of medicine buying.
