General trade imports and exports accounted for over 60% of the total, valuing at 164.61 billion yuan, up 29.7% from the previous year. Imports and exports by processing trade amounted to 98.96 billion yuan, up 11.1% from the previous year, accounting for 36.7% of the total.

The imports and exports of foreign-funded enterprises stood at 136.07 billion yuan, up 14.8%, accounting for 50.5%. The imports and exports of private enterprises hit 118.24 billion yuan, up 33.9% and accounting for 43.9%. The imports and exports of state-owned enterprises totaled 15.18 billion yuan, 7.9% more than the previous year and accounting for 5.6% of the total.

Zhongshan's top five trading partners in 2021 were the US, EU, ASEAN, China's Hong Kong, and Japan, with 55.01 billion yuan, 44.25 billion yuan, 30.52 billion yuan, 21.5 billion yuan, and 15.03 billion yuan trading hands, up 28.8%, 24.3%, 19.9%, 13.8%, and 10.2% respectively. In addition, Zhongshan's imports and exports to countries along the Belt and Road and RCEP partners increased by 23.8% and 16.7% respectively.

In terms of main products, Zhongshan's exports of machinery and electronic products was 167.78 billion yuan in 2021, up 22.4%, accounting for 75.2% of the total exports.
