With a shrimp in his hand, Wei-wen Cai, founder of Yingkunyuan, an ecological agriculture technology company in Zhongshan, said that with the current high-density industrial aquaculture technology, the general yield per mu of shrimps can be 1,500 to 2,000 kg per year and 3,000 kg top. However, Yingkunyuan can make the maximum yield per mu reach 4,500 kg in a harvest and 13,500 kg top in three harvests.

Yingkunyuan focuses on the application of gene chips in eco-agriculture. In April 2023, it built its first new-type aquaculture base and innovatively started a trial breeding program of Pacific white shrimps by using gene chip technology and products. The base recently saw the first harvest, achieving its high-yield target.

Technology is of the essence in technology-based breeding. Yingkunyuan's breeding technique was developed by Halgen, a company Wei-wen Cai founded in Zhongshan's Torch Development Zone. The company specializes in the development and production of gene chips and other reagent kit instruments and provides its clients with gene chip testing and customized services.

"Investment in R&D has always been an important expenditure for us, and tax policies here provide strong impetus for our technology innovation," said a staff member of Halgen.

Next, according to Wei-wen Cai, they would enhance cooperation with agriculture-related digital technology companies, hoping to achieve fully-automated breeding with the utilization of digital and intelligent methods.
