On June 29th, a meeting concerning the “Construction Plan of Civilized and Ecological City of Zhongshan” was held in Zhongshan. Zhu Guangqing, Vice Minster of Ministry of Environmental Protection, presided over the meeting. Zhu Guangyao, former Deputy Director General of the State Environmental Protection Administration, Chen Min, Deputy Director General of Guangdong Environmental Protection Bureau, and Vice Mayor Deng Xiaobing attended the meeting.

Based on the outline of “Construction Plan of Civilized and Ecological City of Zhongshan”, the meeting clarified the objectives in different phrases of construction and explained the general concept, key fields and safeguard measures.

In the outline, the key fields are defined, including implementing ecological space control, optimizing urban and rural development layout, promoting green transformation for industries, increasing resource and energy efficiency, enhancing environmental treatment and planning ability, ensuring regional environmental security, directing changes of life style, popularizing ecological behaviors, establishing public participation mechanism, fostering public awareness of ecological civilization, accelerating establishment of green government and so on.

The outline was passed on the meeting, and the concept of implementing “indexes system” in the construction was affirmed by the experts. Jin Jianming, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and expert on environmental ecology, put forward the opinion of listing the green schools with ecological education in the indexes system. He also hoped the outline could be continuously improved and perfected in the future to highlight the characteristics of Zhongshan.
