The construction of Zhongshan Museum was finished in September 28th, 1984, on the original site of Zhongshan Overseas Chinese Hospital built in 1934. The building is a court structure combining both western and Chinese architecture elements. The main building is three-storied, with a floorage of about 2,000 square meters. Zhongshan Museum includes several sub-museums such as Zhongshan Art Museum, Zhongshan Museum of Commercial Culture (in construction), Zhongshan Radio Museum (on trial exhibition) and the Exhibiting Hall of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park.

Since its foundation, Zhongshan Museum has been taking the job of collecting and unearthing cultural relics as its responsibility. Among other things, the finding of the Longxue Relics and the Baishuijing Relics is attributed to the work of the museum. The unearthed colored pottery, coarse earthenware and stoneware, typical in ancient Pearl Delta, contribute considerably to the research of the culture at that time.

The exhibits in Zhongshan Museum are mainly colored pottery, china, bronzeware, calligraphy scrolls or paintings by celebrities and revolutionary cultural relics.
